Abstract

As environmental deterioration and global warming is attracting more attention, this study investigates the environmental impact on the vendor or supplier selection problem. After re-examining the existing selection process, we first highlight the processes for qualification and final selection by considering environmental (or green) and traditional criteria. We next adopt an analytic network process (ANP) with the merits of benefits, opportunities, costs, and risks (BOCR) to assess all factors for ranking suppliers for the certain and uncertain effects and also the dependences and feedback. In addition, this study integrates the content validity ratio and factor analysis into the solution procedure for the benefit of ANP analysis. Lastly, we illustrate a case of selecting suppliers for an electronics firm in Taiwan. The results show that the criteria of greatest concern are consistent delivery, flexibility, and cost, whereas environmental criteria are valued less. Based on the analysis, we provide some discussions and conclusions.
